The Mind and Breathing

When we are stressed or feel burdened, whatever the reason or circumstance, we subconsciously go into fight-or-flight mode causing us to interrupt the natural rhythm of our breath. When this happens, without knowing we tend to hold our breath, have choppy breathing, or shallow breathing. The lack of oxygen in your brain magnifies your experience of stress and hopelessness because your brain is now physiologically under stress ( lack of oxygen).

So you see, stress leads to more stress. So how do you stop the cycle?

The answer is simple. Become aware of your breathing in stressful situations and then take a DEEP BREATH!

Meditation trains your mind to stay in a calm and restful state through your breathing.

THE WILL

-Macklemore FT. Ryan Lewis - 01 Vipassana - The VS EP - Dec 2009 (Lyrics)

If we believe we have no choice, then we have become narrow-minded. The present moment is filled with potentialities. We always have the choice to remain flexible and centered.  You must use your will to exert focus and discipline, as in meditation.

Regulate your breathing to mimic a calm and relaxed state. Your mind will follow.

It really is this simple!

A Healthy Foundation

Building a foundation for your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing is essential in feeling well and secure. The power is in your will.

How Nose Breathing Can Help You Manage Fear: Insights from Neuroscience

Nose breathing has been shown to influence the brain’s processing of fear, as suggested by several neuroscience studies. Here are the key ways in which nose breathing impacts the brain’s fear processing: Olfactory Pathway Activation: Breathing through the nose activates the olfactory system, which directly connects to the brain’s limbic system, including the amygdala, a …

Presets

Swimming in an ocean of controversy. My soul numbed by the terror of so much violence. I don’t want to see, but the machines are designed so that I never leave. I am no longer me but the preset that someone wanted me to be. Before, seeing the Virgin Guadalupe in designs made me think …

Hawai’i Nei

Everywhere I look, there you are Hawai’i Nei.  Glancing at me through trinkets in people’s houses. Relics brought back from their voyages. They pierce back at me as to say. “I’m here,  just as you are here.” How do I escape something that has infused every fiber of my being?   I am who I …

Caregivers

Most of us are treating our bodies the only way we were taught, whether our parents or caregivers were excellent or poor examples. It’s never too late to learn proper care for our emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing. This will make all the difference in our day-to-day life.

I like to visualize a triangle when I think of maintaining my wellbeing.  I have three points and space inside of the triangle.

THREE (3) POINTS:

PHYSICAL TRAINING

PROPER NUTRITION & HYDRATION

MEDITATION

PROPER SLEEP:  I can’t stress this one enough. Adequate sleep is a must! If I lack sleep, everything becomes more difficult. Additionally, science has proven that if you continue without sleep, your brain will start to deteriorate.  I consider the triangle to be filled with proper rest.

PROPER NUTRITION

Eat fresh. Vegetables and fruits are dense in nutrients. Please keep it simple.  Drink water! There is no substitute for water.

Fruits and Veggies

PHYSICAL TRAINING

Working out not only pumps your brain with feel-good chemicals but also increases your resiliency in life.

Training

MEDITATION

Learning to create your own inner peace is essential for your emotional well-being. Cultivating awareness is key when it comes to leveling up.

Meditation

This is very simple. There is no need to complicate your life or to follow a new fad every couple of weeks.  This has worked for me and I am sure it will work for you.
